How Indi, Suvi & Tia Jax navigate Pole and Parenthood
How Indi, Suvi & Tia Jax navigate Pole and Parenthood
This Mother’s Day, we wanted to highlight the beauty and complexity of motherhood and how intertwined it is with movement, identity and community.
We spoke with three of our incredible instructors, Indi, Suvi, and Tia Jax, who generously shared their reflections on parenting and pole.
Whether you’re a mother or are simply navigating how dance and life collide, we hope their words bring you comfort and inspiration.
“The fact that I am able to dance, teach, and be a mother is considered celebratory in my eyes.” – Tia
“I’m proud of how I’ve balanced motherhood and my passion for dancing, proving that both can thrive together with dedication and self-care.” – Suvi
Love, Patience, Creativity: The Core of Both Worlds
Being a mom and being a dancer both ask for a deep presence of love, patience, creativity and care, shares Tia. “It’s wild to think how closely all sides of these spectrums compliment and support each other.” She reflects on how since becoming a mother, all of that has only deepened.
For Indi, these roles helped her to “better understand students who are parents, and the limitations they might have, as well as their priorities in class. Like dance, motherhood transforms you. It’s an incredibly enriching journey that, of course, has its ups and downs.”
Movement Can Be Medicine: Dancing Through Motherhood
“Dancing has always been a form of therapy to me. It’s meditational and grounding while still presenting me with challenges that I am eager to accept.”, says Tia “It strengthens my ability to live in the moment. I want to enjoy every second with my daughter, just like I want to savor every moment in my dancing — I don’t want to rush either journey.”
Suvi shared a similar view, saying that dance and being an instructor helped her welcome qualities essential to motherhood, fostering creativity, connection, and balance in life. “Both have shaped me in ways I couldn’t expect. Dancing helped me embrace self-expression and kindness with myself and my students.”
The Power of Example: Showing Our Kids What’s Possible
One of the most powerful messages shared by all three was this: dancing as a mother isn’t selfish—it’s a gift to your children.
“There’s nothing more important than showing our kids what being an independent, creative, physically capable, empowered adult looks like,” said Indi “In my life, dance is a big part of that.” She also shared how dancing helps set a good example to kids, of how to integrate creativity and movement as part of life. “I think having an outlet like dance makes you a better parent because you have a place to release stress, to create and to express.”
Whether you’re starting or continuing your pole journey, here’s what these incredible mothers want you to know:
“Start at your own pace. Honor your beautiful body and embrace the strength & confidence pole brings. No matter where you are at in life.” – Suvi
“Dance with the same care you’d give your child. Enjoy every second you can and use it as a way to gift yourself with love, compassion, grace and patience. Fill your cup, then pour that love into both worlds.” – Tia
“Find a studio that supports you in the way you want to be supported. Shop around until you find a community that feels right for you.” – Indi
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and caregivers in our community. We see you and we honor you!
